Why is Amazon’s Shipping So Slow?

What’s happened to Amazon.com, huh? Used to be, I could order something, and BAM my book would be here in a week, sometimes 5 days later. Not too shabby!
But HOLY COW, I’ve been waiting in the wings for over two weeks, and my books are not even in my state yet! :grump:

It seems to take FOREVER– a WHOLE WEEK, almost!– to even get the product out of Amazon’s warehouse anymore!

I ordered my books on November 13th, so you can’t blame “the holidays” for the shipping delay. Unless, of course, Amazon was just swamped with orders over Halloween. :-p

But look! My books weren’t even shipped out of the warehouse until November 18th– and even then, I wonder if they were really shipped out, because the Postal Service doesn’t even mention receiving anything until November 24th!

So it took Amazon a whopping TWELVE DAYS to get my three paperback books (which Amazon said were in stock!) OUT of their warehouse to the local post office?!
The estimated time of delivery is November 28th– over two weeks from my order. And guess what? It’s November 28th today, and books still aren’t here! :grump:

Yeah, I opted for “free shipping.” I shouldn’t have been such a cheapskate. Because Thanksgiving has come and gone, and my books haven’t come in yet… *sigh*

I’m having the same issue with Borders books. I ordered gift certificates from them on Nov 16 and still don’t have them. The FEDEX tracking still says “in transit”. I think 12 days is way more than enough time for delivery of a small envelope that going from Indianapolis to Dallas, don’t you?

I used to love Amazon because, as you said, order it and receive it very quickly in one box. Since early July I have ordered books on 3 occassions and it seems that every book arrived separately and took up to 25 days to get to me. Not really acceptable. I ordered 10 books for my grandaughter first week of June, she needed them for her summer reading assignment. Summer was half over before she got some of them. Crazy.

hmmm, try living outside of the US. The snailiest snail mail ever is Amazon’s form. I normally order 6-8 weeks in advance and usually forget what I have ordered so it is such a surprise.

LOL @ “swamped with Halloween orders”!
It’s always hit or miss when you do business on both Amazon and Ebay. You just have to hope that you get a good, on their toes seller that is serious about what they’re doing! I once waited nearly a month for something. Gave that seller a scathing review and of course, will NEVER use them again!

I will share everyone’s woes about Amazon’s slow shipping, but I presume all of us are referring to the “free Super Saver shipping”? Because despite the fact that sometimes I have to wait quite a while for my stuff (although sometimes stuff does still come super quick – I ordered a vacuum recently that came within 3 days!), I am extremely happy that Amazon continues to offer FREE shipping at such a low threshold of $25 – I really don’t know any place else myself that offers a bajillion products that ship free for spending only $25. I just make sure I order my stuff well in advance of when I need it, but I really can’t muster a lot of anger about their slowness when they’re giving it to me for free, esp in this economy. My 2 cents. :-D

Geez, that’s ridiculous that an order for three books should take over two weeks to arrive! I hope they show up soon. I’d I guess I won’t be ordering any books from Amazon.com this holiday season!

In the UK Amazon still seem to be fairly good, the last 3 orders I have made arrived within 7 days. So I cant really complain.
