My Favorite Christmas Song

Remember this moldy oldie, folks?!

HAHA!!

When I worked in radio, back in the 80s, I had to play this stupid song almost EVERY HOUR during the Christmas music season. It nearly drove me up the wall.

I quit radio, gee, about 20 years ago now!, and for some weird reason, I remembered that song today. Funny how sentimental one gets as they age…

…so I played it for my kids. I was yukking it with peals of laughter, almost tossing my cookies because I was laughing so hard. The kids just had blank looks on their faces, obviously puzzled as to why their mother was having such a good time.
:hohboy:

Whatever. I can party without them. I played it over and over, just like those bygone days of carefree and splendid youth! Over and over and over…

..and then… about a half hour later, I hear them singing it under their breath to each other. HA!

P.S. That music video deviates slightly from the song version. The video has Grandma pop out from the chimney, alive, after a day (apparently, Santa’s sleigh had dumped her in the chimney and she didn’t really die). The reason for the watered down version is because TV didn’t want to shock the young viewers with violence (death of Grandma) and have kids entertain the thought that Santa was a murderer. Lordy, how things have changed in 20 years!!

Boyd in the ‘Hood

Been listening to Liona Boyd today. What an amazing guitarist she is! I would like to know HOW and WHY we are forced to listen to the maniacal monkey music on the radio all day long, while accomplished and superior musicians like Liona Boyd are virtually ignored by the mass media. It’s very aggravating!

I never liked rock music, not even when I was a wild-eyed, zombied public school student in the 80s. If anything, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, and Flock of Seagulls completely repelled me from the propagated monkey music. It sounded like clanging kitchen faucets and was filled with babbling drivel. I’m just glad I was too young to fall into the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Beatles craze, where all they sang about was their hypodermic needles and bodily functions. *barf* And I cannot believe the music of those old retards is still going strong!

Well, there’s a whole WORLD of amazing musicians that never get recognized for their immense talent, you know that? Like Liona Boyd, or Darlene Zschesh, or Martin Smith, or my lovely daughters! It’s a shame. It’s a shame that we have to listen to the monkey music of the chaotic masses from the boombox speakers of the cars that rattle my windows as they screech by. What would the world sound like with Boyd’s Jesu, Joy or Bach’s Allemande, or Smith’s Majesty piped through the speakers? The world would be a heck of a lot better, if you ask me!

If you want to hear a small tidbit of Boyd’s music, Amazon has a sampling of her album Baroque Favorites. It’s heavenly!

Why Do People Dismiss Christian Music?

I’ve wondered this for years. I canNOT believe the absolute crap that our culture will tolerate, calling it music. I mean– Britney Spears?! Mick Jagger?! Paris Hilton?!?!!?!?! I used to work in radio, I know a thing or two about pop music, BMI, Top 40 charts, etc. For years, the logic behind the tastes of modern music has eluded me.

Then a few years ago, I read a news story about SONY paying off certain radio stations to play their music and fabricate their placement in the charts.

Ah yes, it all became clear then.

And why are Christian music artists so dismissed? They even had to create their own music awards show– the Dove Awards– because the Grammy goons wouldn’t give them an inch. Have you ever heard the music of Steven Curtis Chapman? Hillsongs? Delirious? Libera? Keith Green? Why not? Why aren’t these people allowed to have their songs played on the radio? Why must their music be sidelined for only “Christian” radio stations? Are people alergic to songs about God? Or is there some bigoted reason? Its certainly not because Christiansdon’t produce superior quality music, because a good deal of their music is far superior in quality and production to a lot of the gunk piping through the radio transmitters.

Here’s a good example of an INCREDIBLE singer. I have never heard of this guy– Aled Jones. Apparently, he is from Wales, England. His singing is just stunning.

Why aren’t guys like him on “regular” radio stations?? It’s so unfair. And why are all singers looking the same? I mean, you have to be really slinky like you’re promoting best weight loss pills or something, have slinky clothing, and a “come hither” look to even get a record deal. Who cares what people LOOK LIKE?! It’s MUSIC.

It just totally eludes me.
