No surprises there.
Want some proof? Have you heard about the “fantastic” story about the Chinese diver saved by a Beluga whale? The diver was in a free-dive competition, at the Polar Land Aquarium in Harbin, North East China. This diver, a lady by the name of Yang Yun, was one of the finalists, chosen to dive as DEEP as she could in FREEZING COLD waters WITHOUT ANY diving gear.
Say it with me, boys and girls– STOOOOOOPID.
Unfortunately, the big story isn’t about how stupid people can be, but about how a Beluga whale saw the lady in distress at the bottom of the aquarium pool. The whale poked and bumped Yang Yun to the surface of the water.
The most remarkable thing about what happened isn’t really mentioned anywhere, in any of the stories that I read. Which is: Who took the photos of the girl in distress at the bottom of the pool? Ummmm HELLO?! No one knew what was happening?! Why did they allow a whale to save the girl and the people not stop what they were doing and help her? Even if the camera was a webcam or something– this was a COMPETITION, and surely the divers were being monitored.
All very, very fishy.

That conclusions is pretty funny. I remember when I was in the Air Force and buddies would ask if I wanted to see a picture of their girl back home that they just received. For those guys who showed me the pix of their girls in lingerie, I always asked – “So, who took the picture?”

Yup, you’re absolutely right. There’s also the reason why the diver needed assistance — she had a cramp in her leg. Keep in mind this is a fish tank; they’re just not that deep. I don’t think this woman had any business being in a bathtub let alone a tank or a swimming pool. I actually thought this story was a joke when I first heard it. Slow news day, I guess.

I think you missed the point! This was like one of those movies in which someone is in trouble but a character that could save that individual says, “Wait just a minute — let’s give (blah, blah) a chance.”
The photographer, then, was just giving the whale the chance to be all that he could be — to prove himself the hero that everyone believed him to be.
And the whale came through with flying colors.
Now, had the whale not taken action — well, it could have been tragic…

Smacks forehead! Thank you for saying the obvious. I never think of these things.

Hey, it wasn’t a Chinese diver. It was one of those people on the Hills, and after the fiftieth retake of the so-called reality show, the whale had had enough and kicked Heidi Montag or whoever out of his pool. That’s the real reason the camera was there.
In all seriousness though, you have a valid point about the camera.
