I’m the One Who Is Raging

I would like to know WHY in tarnation a God-hating, Christian-hating website advertisement appeared in my Entrecard widget on two of my other blogs. I NEVER approved that website and I am seething (as usual) that it appeared. What the ****?!?!?!

There has been a small outcry by a few members of EC, complaining that this ad was rejected, but the ad still appeared. NO ONE has answered 1.) how this ad got past the rejection, and 2.) how to get it OFF our sites. All one person said was something like, “this is one of the best blogs” and to leave the ad.

Hello?! I’ll bet if someone who blogs about Obama looking like a chimpanzee slipped an ad on YOUR site, you’d not be happy if someone said, “oh, this is one of the best blogs evah, dude” and to leave it up. I do not appreciate being railroaded into this. I have other things to do besides wrangle with widgets and offensive websites, like earning a living and shopping for a gift Bob stroller, ok?!

Plus, whether this is one of the best blogs is highly, highly debatable. Nonetheless, I DO NOT want this ad on any of my sites and a few people feel the same way! HOW do we get rid of it? Hello?!

I’ve heard some rumblings today but have otherwise not been personally affected by this. Now I’m a little nervous…

I rejected that as well. Now I’m worried it will show up nonetheless. All I’ve had show up so far is the beading one.

What annoys me is that most of the blogs I’ve gone to tonight have had the paid advertisements, either the beading or the Twitter one. I’ve seen very few with normallblog ones so am I just going at the wrong times or are the paid ones getting more time in the widget than was originally contended?

I’m not sure how to feel about the new EC. I had a boatload of paid ads to approve/reject this weekend. About half of them were “make money blogging” sites, some of which look like they only started up because of the changes in the program. I can only hope the ones I rejected won’t still show up. There are too many for me to check on constantly. Ugh.

I think I know the ad you mean and I too thought the Entrecard staff had agreed that we could reject any ad we wished to not appear on our sites. Did this ad actually appear in your queue and you intentionally did not click it? If so, and it then appeared on your blog, I too would be furious. I haven’t rejected any paid ads yet, but I may reject one just to see if I have the same experience.

This seems to be a bone of contention amongst a lot of bloggers; I’m seeing these ranting kinds of posts everywhere.

A wonderful blogger– Roxy of Desperate Housewives– has a post that helped me. She said there’s a spot on the Dashboard called “Advert Settings” where you can change your preferences. I have no idea when this feature was added; too late, in my opinion. They sure didn’t publicize it.

Anyway, there’s a way to reject the durn things.

BTW: Yes, Patricia, I HAD rejected these particular ads. They showed up, anyway. As I stated previously, I JUST discovered a settings feature to allow you to reject/approve ads. Apparently, it is turned off by default, and the “Reject/Approve” wording on the widgets themselves mean nothing unless you turn off that default setting first. This was not announced; bloggers had to find it themselves. How frustrating.

I’m sure these things will get worked out but I’d be furious too if a widget appeared that I did not approve, especially the one you are referring to. I’m off to check my settings again to make sure I have the right ones checked and just hope they work!

Well, to say there have been some problems with this new “paid ads” thing is an understatement. I’ve got three blogs on Entrecard — one of them accepts those ads and one doesn’t.

Call it a social experiment. I’m guessing my “bad doggie” blogs will be crammed down to nothing in terms of ranking, while the “good doggie” one rises considerably.

    Rotten state of affairs…

Ah I see they are being sneaky about this by not informing us about the new advert settings, I posted about my feeling on this yesterday and I am very unhappy with EC I feel that if someone chooses to advertise on my site by using credits they earned from clicking on me and others then they “earned” the right to have an ad displayed. I do this for fun and to meet people its not an extra income. I have been rejecting all the paid ad’s and only displaying my normal advertisers

I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings about EC these days too. Likely I will stick it out for the end of the month to see if those paid things make enough real money to tempt me to keep them running. I also read the post on Roxy’s blog and changed my settings. Pretty poor that an ad I did not approve could still run. Like EC thinks nothing to just bypass the blog owner. That is pretty ballsy. Not in a good way.
