Critical of Large Families? Why Don’t You Shut up?

I am sick and tired– really sick and tired– of all the criticisms, snickerings, mockings, scornings, and opinions people have about the Duggar family. Remember them? They have scads and scads of kids? They just had their 17th kid, and were sneered by the media recently? It’s disgusting to see how nosy people are about this family. Onlookers think they have some kind of higher moral authority to question how many children the Duggers have (and should be allowed to have, that is). I have one thing to say to these armchair critics:

MIND YOUR STINKIN’ BUSINESS.

I’m betting that the Duggars couldn’t care less about your opinions about how many children they “should” have. As a matter of fact, I hope they have 17 more kids, just to bug the heck out of you whining, nosy critics. Since when does any family need your input for family planning these days? Who do you critics think you are, Margaret Sanger or Mao Tse Dung?

If anything, I think couples who have only their 1.2 children should be criticized. The Duggars are doing their best, raising workers for contributing the defunct Social Security system– 17 of them! While you, with your meager offspring quantity, are expecting the same benefits yet investing only a tiny portion into the system.

With the economy and the Social Security system in the crappy way they are, you critics should be kissing the Duggars’ feet, offering to babysit and change diapers, and quit your high-falutin’ sneering. All those kids are going to be contributing to your old-age fund, after all.

First time to your blog and I already know that I will be regular.

-They take care of themselves and it is no ones business how many kids they have. Mrs. M Duggar deserves an award! Well, both parents do :)

Thank you, Laura. You are on my regular drops list.

The Duggars are fellow Arkansans and they’ve been catching hell for years about how many children they have. I don’t want 17 children (I can barely manage the two I have), but it’s none of my business how many kids another family chooses to have. It’s annoying that some people feel the need to criticize.

By the way, Jim Bob Duggar is pretty well off as he comes from a family with some amount of wealth and influence. He can afford that large family of his, so what’s the problem?

It’s no ones business as long as thy are not sponging off me and the rest of society. Kudos to this wonderful family who seem to have done a far better job raising 17 than most do with one.

It’s wonderful. They seem to be committed to each other and take good care of the kids. Kudos to them.

I said the very same thing to someone last night. They were being compared to that woman with the octuplets that is all over the news. How can you compare the two? It’s making me crazy.

I don’t have a problem with the Duggers. They seem to have a great family, all the kids seem like really good kids and they all have jobs, even the little ones. I mean chores not real jobs though I suspect they make a nice chunk of change from their TV show. They can have as many kids as they like. I do have a problem with the single mom who just had 8 kids in addition to her 6. She is getting help from the government (us) and that pisses me off. What she did was crazy and irresponsible. The Duggers are a different breed.

What’s with all these people having franchises? geez….

Who cares as long as their happy, the kids are happy and no one is getting hurt! Just imagine when the parents are old and frail the kids will be able to look after them ;)

Ehhh, people have opinions and blogs are a place for everyone to voice those opinions and hey we know what opinions are like and we also know that regardless of whether we voice those opinions or not, we all have ‘em.

I’m not even going to worry about Social Security, if it’s there then fine and if it isn’t then my pensions and savings will just have to suffice.

  11. crabbyblogginglady Says:

Pension? Savings? I’m in the under-40 crowd. No pensions and savings for us. No Social Security for us, either. Baby Boomers totally ruined everything. So no worries for you, but for me and my children… lots of worries.

I don’t know about you, but having opinions for the sake of having opinions is useless. It’s one thing to prefer pink to blue, it’s another to act as a moral agent over someone else. But you are right, bloggers do have opinions and they do like to express them.

But as far as semantics goes, people should not confuse ‘preferences’ with ‘opinions.’ Opinions are supposed to be based in fact, or, at the very least, in reality and consideration of evidence.

    Addendum to my previous comment:

And I do believe this is why bloggers are looked down upon, in general, as being unreliable and inaccurate when compared to other communications mediums. I think a lot of bloggers confuse the meanings of ‘preference’ and ‘opinion.’ Just because a person has an opinion does not make their statement worthy and valuable and reliable. It is only when their opinion is based in facts and investigation of the topic at hand- with consideration of the facts- that opinions are formed and expressed. Otherwise, a blogger is just spouting preferences.. which is fine, no big deal. But bloggers should not be offended if they are called out for inaccuracies and/or inconsistencies.
