Proof Once Again That Politicians Are Out of Touch…

…well, er.. maybe they are a little TOO MUCH in touch, when I think about this topic….

So you’ve heard about the New York State Representative Anthony Weiner. What a disgrace of a representative. Doesn’t ANYBODY stop to think about that that word MEANS?? The guy REPRESENTS the people of New York! Have we no honor, no self-respect? We let a guy like this represent us???

It looks like Mr. Weiner is getting a slap on the wrist for what he’s done. All that’s at stake is his job and career. Oh yeah, and his marriage. That’s KINDA important, too (although, just not to Mr. Weiner).

In light of this scandal, politicians are taking action to fix this heinous behavior– by making it less of a crime. Oh, yes!

It’s called “sexting.” The word makes me shudder because it’s so flippant. Apparently, it’s an “epidemic” amongst teenagers. According to MyWay News, 1 in 5 young people have “electronically transmitted explicit photos of themselves, and one third say they have received such photos.” OK, that is DISGUSTING. That’s not “normal” societal behavior. A kid caught doing it has committed a felony crime, because transmitting indecent photos of a child falls under child pornography laws.

So what do the politicians want to do? Reduce the penalties! Golly gee! Child porn isn’t truly child porn if it’s the child doing it, they say!! Yes, seriously, they actually mean that. Unbelievable.

These politicians are IDIOTS. Instead of watering down these laws because teens are doing it, these teens should be clobbered with the hard hand of the law so that they’ll learn their lesson that doing such stuff is disgustingly sick and a reproach in society.

I don’t know where this philosophy comes from, that “kids will be kids” and the judicial system needs to go easy on them. I am of the exact opposite belief– you don’t “go easy” on a kid that rapes and murders a toddler because “kids will be kids” and “kids make mistakes.” That actually happened in my area: a 13-year old raped a 2-year old and murdered her, then put her in her little crib overnight. When mom came home, she found her daughter dead. The punishment for the boy? A couple of months in a juvenile detention unit. I cried my eyeballs out when I heard that. What does that say to that kid, to society in general? That it’s not really all that bad to abuse little girls and kill them. Good Lord….

No, KIDS will NOT be kids. Sending lewd photos of yourself is not “kid” behavior. This kind of crap should not be tolerated, not even once. The consequences are so devastating to other people. I’m a firm believer in hard laws being an excellent deterrent. Even if it’s not a deterrent to the child, it would be for the parent who’d have to pay $5,000 and see their precious little baby go to jail for a while.

As the World Churns…

When I was in school, waaaaay back in the 70s (don’t laugh), they taught us to mock religion and traditional family values. I remember thinking how horrid and restrictive were traditional values like sexual purity, obeying your parents, caring for your siblings, honoring people in authority like your pastor or grandparents.

I’ve come a loooong way, baby.

What a bunch of dung that was! Do you realize that the casting off of restraint has totally wrecked our society?!

I have just come back from reading headlines at the news (WITH my groovy new digital video cables, too  ). But good Lord, the stories are scary. Besides the usual politicians-performing-criminal-acts stories, average society is breaking down completely! Hold on to your hats, people:

Copper Thief Steals Entire Transformer From Power Pole…

What the heck?! They risk death for copper?! In broad view of everyone?! And the economy sucks so bad in this country that people are stealing scrap metal?!

House will move this week to limit funding for effort in Libya…
The United States has NO business being in Libya. Nor Iraq nor Afghanistan, for that matter.

Military developing spy drones ‘size of insects and birds’…
Unconscionable!! They are using our own tax money to create spying machines to spy on us!!! And how dare they send these monsters into other countries– any joker could start an act of war.

2 Women Arrested After Roadside Begging For Fake Funeral Of Baby…
Sad.

NBC Apologizes for Omitting ‘Under God’ From Pledge During U.S. Open Broadcast
The brazen media can do whatever they want, on our dime. Oh they “apologize” “IF” anyone was offended. How about we take NBC off the air, seeing they aren’t truly “national” but “global”?

Russia to Lower U.S. Debt Holdings…
The politicians have just handed our country over to Russia and China. :(

States look to Internet taxes to close budget gaps…
HOLY COW! I’m ballistic over this. How about we end MILLION DOLLAR pensions for New York State perverts serving in our government!!!

And my teachers and co-students said that traditional values were “restrictive.” Hoh boy, what a lie! So where’s this Shangri-La of licentious living, huh?

No, things are turning out just like the traditionalists said they’d turn out:

1. Remove the traditional family (Judeo-Christian) values from society, and society will go into chaos.
2. An authoritarian form of government will arise to control the chaos.
3. Eventually, a single group (oligarchy) or single person (tyranny) will arise to control the authoritarian government. He will appear compassionate at first, but later grasp at power.

It’s the same old story since the beginning. It has not changed one bit.

So what’s a person to do? What DO we do? Have things gone too far?

Well, no, things are never gone too far. I believe that as long as God is wiling and people are breathing, people can return to Him for help. And Lord, knows, we need it. I’m very concerned about what the future holds.

Second Best

MAN, I had all sorts of crabby ideas for this blog, but now that I am in front of the computer, everything has flown away. And they were GOOD ideas, too. I do remember snickering about a few of them.

But now I have forgotten. :( I guess I’ll have to do my second best…

One thing has been been on my mind are WordPress themes. Why is it so hard to find a good WordPress theme? Now, the theme for this blog is pretty good. It was free, and the theme suits my blog perfectly. I appreciate the talented designer making such a terrific theme!

But for a few of my other blogs, the themes are BLAH. I have spent countless hours– months, literally– looking for suitable themes. I’m even willing to pay through the nose for one, too. But all the themes are the same, have you noticed that? Blue, black, gray or white. Thin strip of color for a header (booooring), a white sidebar with insignificant font and design.

I wish I could make my own custom themes. How hard could it be? … probably hard, for a newbie like me. I like spiffy graphics, and that’s where I’d stumble. I mean, it’s not like you can pump the cartoons onto the computer easily enough. You need to be a Photoshop expert. Me, I don’t even know Dokmee document management tips….

I know, I know, I could go with a custom theme. But HOLY COW $1000 or more for custom theme?! No can do.

So hey, if you know where I can get some nice WP themes, let me know. So far, I’ve covered all the usual suspects: woothemes, elegantthemes, theme forest, studio press, etc. Nothing seems *just right.*

Crimes Shifting to Smaller Towns

I guess the cities are no longer the money makers they once were. None of the criminals go there anymore, it’s too crowded. Rather, criminals are now entering the boundaries of sweet suburban living and small town America. Gee, it’s a regular Hollywood movie out there….

:(

Did you ever wonder if more crimes occurred in the summer than the winter? Or if one seemingly “nice” town or city actually has more crime than that decrepit old town with the run-down shacks? I found a very cool website that shows crime rates for the biggest cities. It’s called Trulia. I think it’s pretty neat! It’s no where NEAR as comprehensive as it should be, though. They really need to work on that. This stuff is important. I want to know where all the crimes are so I can avoid the place like the plague. The website covers all the “big cities” and I didn’t see any small towns on there.

I think there has been a dramatic rise in crime in small towns. My small town is seeing a LOT more break-ins, violent domestic incidents, and now we are faced with drug crimes and gangs. I live in a town with a population of under 900!!!!! It’s insane. My neighbors down the street were busted for drug dealing. Further down, there was a drive-by shooting a few weeks ago. And I saw in the news that, after a sting operation, cops discovered heroin, loaded guns and bullet proof vests in a home nearby.

Crime is getting so bad in my area that the cops have stings?!

The politicians had better lower these property taxes real quick like. It’s bad enough, paying such exorbitant taxes in a nice neighborhood. It’s cruel and unusual punishment to make us pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for an area plagued by crime and drugs. Good God.

Some neighbors are so concerned that they are getting g*ns and other means to protect themselves. Others are getting testoripped so they can pound the criminals into the ground.

Me, I’m practicing The Look to make these losers melt like jello under a hairdryer.

Crabby Overload

Meh, I went through quite a crabby spell last week. I blame the torrential heat wave that engulfed the Northeast with evil fervor. SCORCHING heat, torrential flooding, then frost warnings, then scorching heat again. I really hate my moods being at the mercy of the dumb ol’ weather. But this is crazy. Simply crazy. Anyone have any GOOD News, like success with creatine powders or something?!

Mr. Crabby is convinced the weather is being artificially modified, and that explains the very unusual fluctuations the nation (and world) has been experiencing for a few years. Heck, it’s possible. I wish the gaia goofs wouldn’t tinker with the weather. They have a pretty crappy track record, especially after the Killer Bees fiasco….

Anyway, the weather is back to a temperate 70 degrees. For today.

Poor Excuse for a Book

Someone recommended a Michael Crichton book, “Prey,” as a good book for reading on the iPad. I like technology stories, especially if they blend in nonfiction techno babble with a good, solid fiction plot. And I LOVE reading from the iPad– it’s so much easier to read in bed with that than to juggle a big book and flip pages that catch on the covers. Unfortunately, the kind of books that I like to read are rather slim on the iPad (it has a Kindle reader). So I’ve been taking suggestions. And tried “Prey.” I read Crichton’s “Timeline,” and liked it. I thought “Prey” would be another good thriller.

Ugh. “Prey” stinks. It’d be better if I’d stuck to reading witty holiday cards, those have more sense than this book.

The entire book was practically a running propaganda for evolution. WHICH Mr. Crichton TOTALLY got wrong. It’s not “evolution” for an organism to adapt to its environment, dude. That’s called ADAPTATION. I know there are some knuckleheads in the science world who rabidly defend evolution, looking for every opportunity to sneak it into our culture and education. But it’s ALL WRONG. The “swarm” in Crichton’s book may learn and adapt, but it’s not turning into another species, hello! Learning is not evolving. There is no evidence for evolution, none. There’s plenty of evidence for adaptation. But just because an organism adapts an immunity or learns new tricks does not mean it’s going to turn into a lizard or chimp. Or a man. Ridiculous.

So, it was difficult to stomach all that propaganda or error or whatever it was. And then, there was the swearing. Holy cow, do we HAVE to include disgusting, vulgar language into books? It’s bad enough on TV and film. I guess I have higher expectations when I open a book. :-p One character swears like there’s no tomorrow. His death is sad but you’re almost happy to see the character leave because he is so perverse and vulgar.

Anyway, I have learned my lesson. I’m sticking to nonfiction. I just got Frederick Artz’ “Mind of the Middle Ages,” and I have yet to read a fantastic biography of Dr. James Kennedy (my son recommends it). But these are big books that catch on the covers as I flip the pages. *sigh*
