She’s “Chirpy,” All Right

This is kinda cute.

Background: Germany (and Europe) are in a slump– financially and spiritually, and therefore, emotionally. It’s gotta be tough, those baby boomers living high on the hog on the backs of their children and grandchildren… and then those young whippersnappers collapse from the dead, fat weight. Yeah.

Well, Germany is happy that they have a new, chipper, chirpy, cheerful star in their midst. She IS very cute. Gosh. But her neck is, what, 18 inches?? I know lots of people who pop best weight loss pills to get such an Ethiopian neck. But she has lovely, “chirpy” eyes. :)

BERLIN — With the eurozone in crisis, government coffers bare, the national football team in trouble and even the weather awful, victory in the Eurovision Song Contest gave Germany a rare reason for cheer Monday.

Lena Meyer-Landrut was on the front page of every German newspaper, even the normally staid business daily Handelsblatt and the somewhat stuffy Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, dubbing her “Fraeulein Wunder” (“Miss Wonder”).

The mass-circulation Bild devoted almost all of its front page and three “special pages” to the 19-year-old, declaring: “LENA, wir lieben dich!” (“LENA, we love you!”).

“Europe loves us — and finally we’re in a good mood,” the paper said. In 2008 when No Angels spectacularly failed to impress the judges, the paper wondered why no one in Europe liked Germany.

The chirpy brunette’s victory in the European song fest in the Norwegian capital Oslo on Saturday with the catchy “Satellite” was only the second time Germany has won in the contest’s 55-year-history.

The last time Germans were able to celebrate Eurovision success was in 1982, when the Berlin Wall was still up. In the case of Meyer-Landrut — born in 1991 — that was more than a lifetime ago.

More than 120 million viewers across 39 European countries, but also as far afield as Myanmar, Australia and New Zealand, watched Meyer-Landrut, who has only just finished her final school exams, take the honours.

Bild estimated that 40,000 cheering fans welcomed her back in her home town of Hanover on Sunday.

Politicians fell over themselves to congratulate the singer, with Chancellor Angela Merkel saying her “rousing performance” had “dazzled Germany and sang you into the heart of Europe.”

“Whether you wanted to be or not, you are an ambassador for our country who, in one night, charmingly disproved a few old stereotypes,” Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said.

I’ll say. Her last name is Meyer? Isn’t that Jewish? Germany has certainly come a long way. I give them a lot of credit… unlike the U.S., who has now become the very deformed, deranged, sadistic Nazi monster that we once conquered.

The irony.

Watch Your Step, Bub

YOW. Look at this sucker.

(Is that really just Photoshopped??)

THAT, dear people, is the mother of all sinkholes, according to the news folks. It swallowed a THREE STOREY building (and everything in it). Don’t go here to learn more about it– go here. Apparently, a tropical storm (Agatha) blew through Guatemala. The

Tropical Storm Agatha swept across Central America yesterday, bringing torrential rain that killed more than 100 people and opened a 60m-deep sinkhole in Guatemala City which reportedly swallowed up a three-storey building.

The first named storm of the 2010 Pacific season dumped more than a metre of rain in parts of Guatemala, also hitting El Salvador and Honduras. At least 113 people were reported killed, with around 50 missing in Guatemala alone as rescue workers searched through the rubble.

The 30m-diameter sinkhole opened up in a northern district of Guatemala City, with residents blaming the rains and substandard drainage systems. Local reports said one man was killed when the building was swallowed. In 2007, three people died when a similar sinkhole appeared in the same area.

It’s nice to see a news report spell the word “storey” correctly. Not even Spell Check can get it right.

ANYWAY.

WHY the people would plunk a city in the middle of a swamp baffles me. It’s like Los Angeles or Mexico City– hey, who cares if the subsoil is about to crack open and swallow us all up?! Let’s build a big city here, expand it, and dump really expensive homes in the place!! And then, when disaster strikes, we’ll demand that the federal government declare an “emergency” and all the other sane folks living in non-disaster locations will bail us out!!!
:duncehat:
It’s really sad that disasters happen. But if you are ASKING for them to begin with, and sympathy is not forthcoming… why do you complain?

Anyway, I hope the Guatemalans are doing OK. It’s gotta be tough. I feel sorry for those folks.

Random Hilarious Pictures

This is too all my devoted readers who have problems reading text, and therefore, my posts. And then who leave IDIOTIC comments full of atheistic snobbery that are completely unrelated to the issue. You make me laugh.

Oh, and yeah, I HAVE been a tad busy. Not motivated to blog. Don’t misunderstand, I’m still PLENTY crabby! I just don’t feel like blogging about it right now. But all in good time, and I’ll be inspired again, soon.

Google Spies on Home and Biz Networks

“Whoopsie!” says Google. “OOpsie!” “We didn’t know!” “A mistake!”

Thus says the Mighty G. Google Says It Mistakenly Collected Data on Web Usage

Google Inc. said an internal investigation has discovered that the roving vans the company uses to create its online mapping services were mistakenly collecting data about websites people were visiting over wireless networks.

…Google had previously said it was collecting the location of Wi-Fi hot spots from its StreetView vehicles, but not the information being transmitted over those networks by users.

“It’s now clear that we have been mistakenly collecting samples of payload data from open (i.e. non-password-protected) Wi-Fi networks, even though we never used that data in any Google products,” wrote Mr. Eustace. “We are profoundly sorry for this error and are determined to learn all the lessons we can from our mistake.”

Well, I got my laugh for the day! They are “profoundly sorry.” Uh huh.

So while Google was roaming your area, snapping photos of your property and neighborhood, they were also harvesting data about every wireless network (home AND corporate) and the MAC addresses (that’s the identification number of your computer) of them. … so if you were sending email, Google harvested the data. If you were watching videos or getting auto insurance reviews and sending out your personal data, Google knows.

Google says they didn’t pick up secured networks or encrypted websites (rrrright).

I can’t believe the crap in the news story, though. It’s “now clear” that Google has been “mistakenly collecting” data?! Uh HUH. They didn’t know! They were ignorant! They have an excuse!

But they’ve been doing this since 2007!!!!! :duncehat: And they weren’t harvesting USER data “previously”; but all of a sudden, they now “mistakenly” are.

Google said it has been collecting and keeping the data since around 2007. At that time, the team building the software to gather the location of Wi-Fi hot spots mistakenly included some experimental software that sampled all categories of publicly broadcast Wi-Fi data.

“It is another example of the how the company hasn’t effectively grappled with the massive amount of information it collects,” said Jeffrey Chester, executive director of the Center for Digital Democracy.

“How the company hasn’t effectively grappled with the massive amount of information”?! I’d say the people haven’t effectively grappled with the massive amount of CONTROL these people are getting over our lives!

Oh, and the kicker? Google PROMISES that they haven’t used ANY of this information for ANY Google products. So… what DID they and what ARE they using the data for?

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright……

Gummy Bear Experimental Surgeries

Gee, this borders on sick or something. But it’s what governments do, I guess. Just that… they just don’t do it with gummy bears, if you get my drift. 8-O

Gummy Bear Experimental Surgeries

The sites has heart transplants, limb transplants, Lipovox injections, and other really weird stuff… But this was kinda cute.

Gee, who knows, if New York State gets its way with forcing all New Yorkers to “donate” their organs (what a farce that is!), the Joseph Geobbels and mad scientists in Albany may have something like this in our capitol coffers!

I’d rather they keep their disgusting Frankenstein creations with the gummies… and leave us real people alone. Good God, what’s our nation coming to….

When You Have Page Rank…

… people come out of the woodwork to either spam your blog or drown you with measly $1 link offers.

:grump:

Oh THIS blog doesn’t have Page Rank. Sheesh, thanks a lot, Google. UP DOWN UP DOWN… make up your mind!!! First it was 0 then 1 then 0 then 2 then 0… then 0.. then 0….

I don’t do sponsored posts here, so I don’t know what has their dander up.. ya think they don’t care for my rants about them? Or all the wedding invitations links or something?? What’s their problem?

So anyway.

I have PR on some other blogs. When they were at 0, I got NOOOO offers… [crickets chirping] that’s right. Now, now that I have PR… BLAMMO, spam is through the roof! And even more, I get these offers from advertisers who want to pay me $1, $3 for a link. What, THAT pittance?! I’ll jeopardize my PR for a couple of bucks?! Do I look like an Asian mommy blogger to you, hello?!
