No! SIDEWALK CRACKS!

Oswego (WSYR-TV) – A 92-year-old Oswego woman has made it her personal mission to measure every cracked sidewalk in the Port City.

It started four years ago, when Kathleen Harris bruised her face – and got a bruising medical bill for it.

In the summer of 2004, Harris tripped and hit her face on a sidewalk; when faced with a nearly $900 medical bill for her injuries, she asked the city to pay for it, seeing as how it was their sidewalk she slipped on.

Without hesitation, the city said “no … we’re not responsible for cracked sidewalks that aren’t on file.”

“So I said, ‘all right … I’m going to measure every raised-up [sidewalk] in the whole city – and you’re going to get a report and I’m going to have it registered with your city clerk’ — and I says ‘you’re going to know what they are and you’re going to be responsible,’” says Harris.

That’s some mission. Oswego is a big city. Well, kinda big. Big enough! It’s taken the old lady FIVE years to measure all the sidewalk cracks so far. Really, I think it’s a futile action. Because five years ago, the first sidewalk cracks that she measured have only grown larger by now! So if she measure  and document a crack that is, say, 12 inches, and five years later it’s increased 3″ to the left of the original crack, someone falling on the NEW 3″ side would not be covered!

Harris is glad she made the effort. Because now, if anyone ever trips and gets hurt again, the city will have to pick up the tab, meaning, no one will get stuck in the same crack Harris did.

The only ward Harris hasn’t measured is yet is the seventh ward. She’s hoping to start it soon.

Well, if you’re bound and determined to go to Oswego to fall over sidewalk cracks, be SURE to avoid the 7th ward. You’ll have to pay for your OWN medical bills for being such a club-footed clutz.

After giving it a whirl for a week, I’ve decided to dump the Adgitize ads. I like the service itself, but the main beef I have is that some people’s ads were completely unacceptable. And I have no way to control the content of the ads that appear on my blogs. UNACCEPTABLE. I love CMF Ads for this very reason– ALL ads are approved by ME before showing up on my blogs. There is no way I’m going to host ON MY OWN BLOG the atheist and/or immodest and/or inappropriate ads that I have been seeing. No thanks.

I like CMF Ads, and recommend them. And the community there is very cool.

There is something SO salaciously satisfying watching Ron Paul LAMBASTE Bernanke and the Federal Reserve. OMG, what a TERRIFIC speech!!!!

Thanks to Vulcan’s Hammer for finding it. I can’t believe people are not standing and applauding Ron Paul for this– they just SIT in their STINKIN’ chairs!! If I was in these chambers, I’d be doing cartwheels and huzzahs! Our ocuntry is going to HELL and they just sit in their stinkin’ chairs!

Truly, there is NO OTHER REASON for the federal government and the Federal Reserve to take the actions that it has, other than it INTENDS to kill our economy and our nation.

WHY does that Verizon computer machine have a voice that sounds like Katie Couric?! Have you ever heard the Verizon lady? Go ahead and call customer service. Tell me that she does not sound like Katie Couric. VERY annoying. It reminds me of the voice my bosses wanted me to have, when I was in radio. They told me that people like to hear radio women with husky, scratchy, masculine-sounding voices, so the first thing they do is get you to lower your voice for their radio programs. :-p I’m all against Minnie Mouse, but holy cow, who wants to sound like Jeremiah the Bullfrog? Or worse, like Katie Couric. (Kim Komando sounds like her voice was lowered, too, ick).

WHY do businesses push “extended warranties” for small items in your face so much? And WHY don’t consumers push back and say “Why should I pay more for manufacturer ineptitude? Why can’t products be more reliable?” I mean– hey, OK I can see an rv extended warranty for a $200,000 rv, but $50 a year for a $100 digital camera?!?! Talk about snake oil!

WHY do Kodak cameras record video in .mov format?! It’s an obtuse Apple Macintosh format, and totally incompatible with Windows machines. I’ve spent hours upon hours, looking for and downloading various codecs, video players, converting programs, and more, just to get those stupid .mov files to play. AND THEY STILL WON’T!!! GAHHH!! I could kill Kodak for that.

WHY do bloggers moan and groan that people never comment on their blogs, but allow only Google Account users and OpenID users to comment? DUH!!!!!!!

WHY as we get older does our head hair fall out, but facial and leg hair get stronger and more resiliant?!?! It is SO unfair. It’s just plain crazy that brushing too hard will cause our scalp to fall to pieces, but you practically need a putty knife and battery acid to scrape off the leg hair. Sheesh.

So there are my WHY frustrations, unplugged. Ahh I feel so much better. For now.

Some of my fellow bloggers have said they are sick. I’m sorry. I’ve been sick before and durn it, I hate it, too.
